JAPAN: YOKOHAMA: Visit of Brother Hervé Zamor, Superior General

Visit of the Brother Hervé Zamor at St Mary’s International School of Tokyo

After Indonesia and the Philippines, it was Japan’s turn to receive Brothers Gildas Prigent, District Visitor and Brother Herve Zamor, Superior General, for a Visit of 5 to 7 days.

Reminder of FIC’s Presence in Japan:

July 20th, 1951: The First Three Brothers arrived in Japan. The Pointe-du-Lac Province (Quebec) committed to providing Three New Brothers per year in the early years. It kept its Promise. Twenty years later, in 1971, 44 Brothers had been placed there. The FIC’s Work in Japan quickly became organized around the Three Institutions that still exist today. In recent years, their Facilities have undergone a Complete Reconstruction.

St Mary’s International School in Tokyo:
Opened in 1954 for the Children of Foreigners residing in Tokyo, it also welcomed Japanese Students but operated like an American High School.

Seiko Gakuin (Holy Light) High School in Yokohama: A Highly Regarded Japanese School that prioritized Excellence. On the same Property, there was also a Kindergarten, “Sayuri Kindengarden”, which was also very Popular with Parents.

The Japanese Secondary School “Seiko Gakuin” of Shizuoka, was open to a more Modest Population than in Yokohama. In those 4 Institutions, the Brothers paid particular Attention to the Evangelizing Dimension of their Mission.
