RWANDA – Gisenyi: Invaluable Help for a New Beginning in Life

Following the Inspiration of Our founders, Jean Marie de la Mennais and Gabriel Deshayes, being at the Service of Disadvantaged Children and Young People remains at the Heart of the Mission and Existence of every Mennaisian Brother and Layperson.

Bros. Damien and Vital encouraged the Single Mothers to go out and explore; the Past is part of Our History but does not determine Our Future.

This year’s Theme, “Become Conformed to the Image of the Son,” and the Reading of Pope Leo XIX’s Apostolic Letter, “Dilexi Te,” prompted us to reach out to Categories of People suffering in their Hearts (feelings) and in their Social Environment.

Sewing Machine Distribution

Thanks to Donations from the Roncalli International Foundation, we were able to help 71 Young Mothers in Distress by teaching them Sewing and Knitting Skills. That Skills Training was accompanied by other Forms of Support and Education, such as Psychological Counseling, Women’s and Children’s Rights, Entrepreneurship, Forgiveness, Resilience, and more.

Knitting Machines

At the End of the Training, each Young Mother received a Sewing or Knitting Machine to begin her Professional Life. They were encouraged to form a small Association so that their Efforts would not be Scattered; “Unity is Strength.”
