INDONESIA – Yogyakarta: Mennaisian Week, An Unforgettable Encounter

The Yogyakarta Community (Formators, 1st year Postulants and Scholastics) have made a Commitment of the 2025-2026 Community Project to Regularly Visit the Sick, the Elderly and Orphanages.

The Mennaisian Week was an Opportunity for us to achieve that Objective. We therefore, prepared a Small Activity with Games, Songs, and Small Competitions as part of a Visit of a few hours to an Orphanage that the young Indonesian Brothers knew well since every year One or Two Postulants have had the opportunity to go on a 2-3 Week “Live-in” to that Orphanage “Panti Anak-anak Hamba” about Twenty Minutes by Motorbike from Our Community.

That Orphanage, run by Catholic Women, take in Children from Kindergarten through High School (19 Children in total, the Majority of whom are Muslims). It was also an Opportunity for us to introduce Our Founder, Jean-Marie de La Mennais, in a Very Simple Way, by means of a Puzzle of his Portrait to be put together.

The Children were rewarded with Small Practical Gifts (Pencils, Notebooks, Notepads, etc.). We also gave the Orphanage some Bags of Rice and other Food Items.

The Meeting ended with a Meal shared together and prepared by some young people from the Orphanage.

One of the Thoughts for the Day (6th Day of the Novena), taken from Evangelii Gaudium, was “Every Religious Community is called to be a sign of God’s Love for the World.”
