UGANDA: KISUBI – Launch of the Centenary of the Province of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus

October 1st, 2025, was a special Day for the Province of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus. It was not only the usual Mennaisian Family Day, but also the Launch of the Centenary Celebration of the Brothers’ Existence since 1926, with the Launch of the Fundraising Campaign for the Elderly Brothers’ Home

In his Speech, the Guest of Honour, Engineer JB Walusimbi, an 81-year-old former Brotherhood boy, praised the Brotherhood’s Great Contribution to Education in the Country over the past 100 years.

The Centenary Project is expected to be completed by the Culmination of the Celebrations in September 2026. On that Occasion, a New General Conference, bringing together all the Major Superiors of the Congregation as well as the General Government, would take place in early September 2026 in Uganda, with the Closing of the Centenary year on September 8th, 2026.

That September 8th already recalls: the Birth of the Virgin Mary, that of Jean-Marie de la Mennais, and it would also be the Anniversary Date of the Province of the Brothers in Uganda.

History reminder:

August 4th, 1926, Four Canadian Brothers arrived in Entebbe. That was the beginning of the Work of the Brothers of Christian Instruction in Uganda.

Ninety-nine years have passed, and the Canadian Brothers who founded the Province have, for many years, given way to only Ugandan Brothers, more than 190 Ugandan Brothers by today. They run Primary and Secondary Schools as well as a University.

Mount Saint Theresa of Kisubi is the Heart and Head of the Province. It is home to: St Mary’s College, a Renowned Secondary School; Two Primary Schools, St.Savio and St.Donoizo; the Postulancy and the Scholasticate a short distance away; the University; and a series of Residences and Administrative Offices for the Brothers and the Provincial… and the School network continues to expand.
