ROME: General Conference of Major Superiors

Since Sunday evening, September 21st , all the Major Superiors of the Congregation have been gathered at the Casa Generalizia in Rome to Experience a time of Sharing, Formation, and Discernment together with the General Council. For three of them – Brother Anthony Kamuhanda, Provincial of the Province of Tanzania-Kenya, Brother Damien Habimana, Visitor, of the District of Rwanda, and Bruno Djukalema, Delegate for Congo DRC: That was their First time!

The First Day focused the Rule of Life. Each Major Superior was invited to present a Chapter of the Rule of Life (1 to 9) and explain how to make it an Instrument of Ongoing Formation (taking into account the Specific Nature of their Province, District or Delegation). Each Person first gave their Personal Testimony: how they received that Chapter of the Rule and how they were challenged. Then Each Person presented to the Assembly Tools for presenting the Rule of Life, what should be Highlighted, the Riches it contained, and the New Aspects developed… It was therefore a very Intense and very Rich Morning!

In the Afternoon, the Major Superiors met in 3 Language Groups, to present at the end of the day a Summary of Tools and Pedagogical Aspects to be retained for each of the 9 Chapters. That Reflection would help, among other things, the Commission in charge of preparing the Animation of the Annual Theme for the 3 Successive Years around the Chapters on Consecration (2026-2027), Mission (2027-2028) and Mary (2028-2029).

There was Morning, and there was Evening, it was the First Day…

The Second Day was devoted to the Study of the Economic Directory of the Congregation.

The Decision to draft an Economic Directory was a response to a Request from the DIVCSVA in Issue 58 of the Document “Economy at the Service of Charism and Mission” (EC). In that Document, Published in 2018, the Dicastery aimed to help Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life address Economic Issues. It is this Document that inspires and guides the Content of our Economic Directory.

During the Afternoon, the Discussion focused on the Stable Patrimony of the Congregation. The General Chapter had entrusted the Brother Bursar General with the Mission of “carrying out a General Recognition of the Assets of the Institute intended to guarantee its Subsistence and facilitate the Achievement of its Institutional Purposes” (EC 38).

That Work having been completed, the Superior General made An Initial Inventory of the Congregation’s Assets, in conjunction with the Major Superiors, for the Assignment of these Assets to the Stable Patrimony of the entire Institute. That Assignment was presented again during the day’s Assembly, Discussed and Well Received by the Major Superiors.

The Final Item on the Agenda was the Creation of a General Administration Fund (FAG). The General Chapter had mandated the General Government to create that FAG from Sales in Italy and to study Mechanisms to Supplement that Fund until 2030.

The Major Superiors listened to the Superior General presenting those Mechanisms and Hypotheses, and they would leave with Elements whose feasibility they would discern with their own advice. Thus, at the end of 2025, the General Government would be able to launch that New Fund, which would be an Essential Asset for the General Council to remain an Animating Force in the Service of the Congregation. The Institute has already been able to establish such a Mechanism for Formation (FSI). That New Fund (FAG) would allow in the Future the Financing – at least in part – of the General Administration and the Generalate from the Interest that would come from a Capital.

The Day focused on the Economy! Listening, Sharing, Respect… Another Intense Day!

Beyond the Intensity of the Day, we did not forget to wish a Happy Birthday to Brother Carlos Lovatto, Visitor of Divina Providencia, Cono Sur. 50 years! That was no Small Feat!

There was Morning, and there was Evening, it was the 2nd Day…
