Indonesia: Last Week of the General Council’s stay in Larantuka
“After the 2 Most Intensive Weeks of Work in Yogyakarta, we arrived at the last Stop of Our Trip: Flores, Larantuka! A Warm Welcome from the Community, School, Children, Brothers…. and a total change of Scenery compared to Yogyakarta (which we left on Monday, June 30th at 8 p.m. to arrive in Larantuka the next day at 2:30 p.m.!!!) But everything went well. The few photos would tell you more!
Welcome by the School Band!
And the Teachers and Parents of the School!
Souvenir photos!
For everyone!
As the days went by leading up to the Celebration on Saturday, July 5th, the Community expanded the Space in its Tent to accommodate Confreres from the Philippines and East Timor (unfortunately, Brothers Eric and Philippe were unable to join us… visa problems!)
Larantuka Cathedral
The First Few Days we discovered or rediscovered the Particularities of Larantuka, a Town that stretched for 12 km along the Coast: Visit to the Cathedral and Pilgrimage to the Sources of Christianity in Larantuka… It dates back more than 500 years…
The Virgin Mary held a very Special Place in the Hearts of the Christians of Larantuka… Why? 500 years ago, a Statue of Mary was found, somewhat Miraculously, even preceding the arrival of the First Missionaries. That Statue was now carefully preserved in a Chapel in Larantuka: a True Sanctuary for Larantuka. In that Chapel, at the Foot of the Altar, the General Council presented the Mission in Indonesia, as well as the Entire Congregation.
On Thursday, July 3rd, the General Council was invited to visit the PRR Sisters (Daughters of the Queen of the Holy Rosary), who are very present in Indonesia and who have forged close ties with the Brothers since the beginning of the Mission.
Welcome to Our PRR Sisters

At the end of the Afternoon, Brothers and Young Aspirants, we met around the Tomb of Brother Nicolas (Niko), one of the Three Founders of the Mission here in 2000, who died following a Sever Malaria in 2002.

In a short time he was able to create an Image of a Joyful Brother, completely dedicated to his Mission, a Brother of the Young, for the Young.
Everyone was waiting for July 5th: Celebration of 25 years of the Mission in Indonesia; Perpetual Vows of Brother Adrianus Andi, and 40 years of Religious Life of Brother Stéphane Le Pape, District Missionary in East Timor.
Bishop Franciskus Kopong Kung, Bishop of Larantuka, presided over the Celebration. His Words were Powerful for everyone, for Brother Andi, Brother Stéphane, all the Brothers present. He recalled how important the Presence of the Brothers of La Mennais was in his Diocese. He hoped that the seed planted 25 years ago, which has begun to bear Beautiful Fruit, would continue to grow and multiply. Because the Field of Education, he continued, was a Major Priority for his Diocese.
The Celebration was full of Color, Song, Emotion, Joy, and shared Smiles. Here, we felt that the word “Bruder” (Brother) was important. It would take Hundreds of Photos to tell the whole story. A few would not be enough.
