INDONESIA: End of the General Council in Yogyakarta – Departure for Larantuka

The General Council met altogether in Yogyakarta from June 16th to 30th 2025. After a First Week of Work in the presence of the Community, the 3 Scholastic Brothers and the 5 Young First-Year Postulants, the Second Week was much quieter, since the Scholastics and Postulants joined their Families for a Vacation Period.

The General Council worked at a rapid pace, with Morning and Afternoon Sessions to allow for More Free Time in Larantuka, and we succeeded, since on June 30th, the Council’s Work was Officially Completed. The Echoes would reach you soon, upon Our return to Rome, around July 9th.

During those Two Weeks, we were able to dedicate Two Days to Cultural Tourism. On Sunday the 22nd, we went to the Heart of Yogyakarta to visit the Palace of the Sultan of Larantuka: the Kraton. It was the Spiritual and Royal Center of Yogyakarta. Protected behind a Square Wall one kilometer on each side, 3 Meters High and 4 Meters Thick, are hidden Vast Squares, Courtyards, Living Quarters of the Servants of the Court and the Royal Family. There we found the Sultan’s Palace and its Successive Courtyards with Elegant Pavilions. We should say, the Old Palace, because today’s Sultan lives in another “More Modern” Palace.

On Sunday, June 29th, another must-see for anyone visiting Yogyakarta was the Borobudur Buddhist Temple. This Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Central Java, Indonesia. It was the Largest Buddhist Monument in the World, known for its Beauty and Unique Architecture. And we were not disappointed! Impressive!
