Haiti – Annual Retreat and Commitments

The Brothers and LAM at the Juvénat, Pétionville

The Insecurity generated by the Activity of Armed Gangs was causing a considerable Slowdown in Traffic between the Capital and Provincial Towns. And in Port-au-Prince itself, the scourge of Kidnapping continues to claim Victims. Consequently, the Annual Retreat of the Brothers of the Saint Louis de Gonzague Province took place in two different locations. The Brothers of the Far North (Cap-Haitien and Ouanaminthe) and the Far South (Jacmel, La Vallée, Cayes) met in Cayes, in the Town of Béraud, with the Franciscans.

The Brothers from the Metropolitan Area Communities (Turgeau, Delmas, Pétionville) gathered at the Pétionville Juniorate. Our Preacher, Brother Hervé Zamor, Superior General, spoke to Our Two groups via Videoconference from Rome. In Pétionville, a Salesian Priest provided Chaplaincy Services; in Les Cayes, that Service was provided by one of the Franciscan Priests.

The end of the Retreat was marked by the Renewal of Vows of several young Brothers, and the Commitment of the LAM (Lay Mennaisian Associates) for two years.

Words of thanks from Fr Valmyr to the Chaplain and the entire host Community (Cayes).

That New Experience was a success, despite some Internet outages at times. The usual Post-Retreat Meetings did not take place this year. Prayer Union for Haiti.
