On October 17th, 1860, after a Long Journey from Brittany, with a Long Stopover in Valparaiso (Chile), Five Brothers of Christian Instruction arrived in Tahiti from Ploërmel (France). The Superior, Brother Albert Marie, was 27 years old, and his Companions were 19. On December 5th, 1860, their First School was opened.

From the beginning, the Brothers found themselves having to face Great Difficulties also in their Relations with the Local Administration (it was the Time of the Laws of Secularization in France!), Difficulties which were successively overcome and which allowed New Schools to flourish the Charism of the Education and Instruction of Young People.

Today, in Polynesia, there are 8 Brothers of Christian Instruction, spread across 3 Communities in Tahiti (Papeete, Faaa) and one in the Marquesas Islands (Taiohae). With the help of many Lay People, they run 6 Schools on Tahiti, including the La Mennais Middle and High School in Papeete, and 2 Schools in the Marquesas Islands, Saint Joseph School and St. Athanase High School in Taiohae.
