COMPASSION. Empathy and Emotion following the death of a Teacher, working in a School in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, France

Sadness and pain. On Wednesday, February 22nd, a 52-year-old Spanish Teacher from Collège-Lycée St Thomas d’Aquin in Saint-Jean-de-Luz was stabbed in Class by one of her 16-year-old student. These are the facts known since yesterday.

The Mennaisian family expresses its emotion here. Brothers and Lay people are doubly present in St-Jean-de-Luz and its surroundings. By Sainte Marie Secondary School of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, in the first place, whose “tutelle” is ensured by the Mennaisian Educational Network of France and the Community of Ciboure called Béthanie, located not far from Saint-Jean-de-Luz, composed of 8 Brothers.

The Brothers are present in the «Midi», in Ciboure-Béthanie since 1878 and were present in Saint-Jean-de-Luz from 1966 to 1999.

May the Leadership, Children and Youth, Teachers, Staff, Parents and Families of St Thomas Aquinas High School, under the tutele of the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of St Catherine of Siena of Albi, find here an expression of our Compassion and Prayer.

We share with them, associated with the 200 Mennaisian Schools and Educational Centres in the 26 Countries where the Mennaisian Family is at work, a message of brotherhood and solidarity so that the Educational realities are a way of peace to “train the whole man”, in the words of Jean-Marie de la Mennais.

A minute of silence will be observed this Thursday at 3 pm in all Secondary Schools in France.
