Events and people who help to listen to the call
God does not speak in a visible and audible way. He speaks to the heart, in silence, through his Word. He speaks to me at the same time in my life, through meetings and events. To perceive his call supposes to take time to pray and to reread one’s life under the direction of the Spirit.
“The joy of the Novices whom I met is what touched me most and attracted me to the Brothers: the joy of giving one’s life to Christ ”
Bro. Julio, Scholasticate, Abidjan “
“One day, I saw a leaflet on the vocation of the La Mennais Brothers in a Carmelites’ monastery in Manila, which said: “We need teachers, educators and evangelisers”.
Bro. Israel, Philippines
Signs for a call to be a Brother?
Every person is unique and each one has his own itinerary, but we can recognise some signs which can help gradually and in accompaniment, to perceive and to discern the call:
- The joy of making a commitment in the service of young people, to live with them during educational experiences (animations, catecheses, teaching) in schools, in holiday centres, in Parishes, in movements …
- The concern for the little children and of the poor, and the wish to work for a better world through the service of education, by helping people to grow up humanely and in their faith.
- The interior desire to follow Christ and to live according to the Gospel, with others in a life marked by the search for God.
- The availability and the capacity to commit oneself concretely in the field of education, by the profession of teacher or educator, with the concern to innovate and to work with others.
“During my life in the Parish, I had met only one Brother. It is this missionary Brother’s life that had attracted me: his joy, his openness, his closeness, his attention, his simplicity and his love for me. I said to myself that I had to do as much for the people who are around me.”
“I discovered in them devotion, humility and simplicity. I noticed that they liked very much the children and welcomed people whatever was their social status
Take, Lord, and receive
all my liberty,
and my entire will,
All I have and call my own.
You have given all to me.
To you, Lord, I return it.
Everything is yours;
do with it what you will.
Give me only your love and your grace,
that is enough for me.
Prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola
