Do we commit ourselves right away?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

To become a Brother, two things are very important, discernment and freedom!
\nYou do not become Brother in one day! The time for listening and discernment is necessary to recognise the call, to verify it and make a choice. Then comes the time to learn more about the Brother\u2019s life, to experiment it and to prepare yourself for the mission: a relation with God deepens, learning community living, and the concrete commitment in the service of education of the young people. For the religious, the Church has planned to make the temporary vows first, before the definitive commitment after a few years.<\/p>\n

Why are you called \u00ab\u00a0Brother\u00a0\u00bb?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

“Brother” is not a title, like “Sir”! It is a beautiful name which for us is a programme of life. We want to live as brothers among ourselves in communities and with all the brothers of the Institute together. We also want, like Jesus, to be brothers of all, particularly the young and the poor. And at the heart of our life, we want, like the first disciples, to live as Jesus\u2019 brothers<\/p>\n

Can you become a priest?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jean-Marie de la Mennais and Gabriel Deshayes, our founders, wanted Brothers for the education of the young people. Still today, we are religious Brothers and not priests. It is a different vocation in the Church, like that of nuns. We are called to live brotherhood and to testify of it in a world which needs it so much. The priest’s vocation is at the service of the Church in the presidency of the Eucharist and in the service of the Word.

<\/h4>\n

Are you always in a community?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The community life is central for a Brother. It is in community, with the other Brothers, that he looks for God, that he tries to live according to the Gospel and that he commits himself for the service of education. But the Brother does not live in a monastery; he lives among men and women of his time and works with them for the children and the young people in schools or other educational works. It is with them all that he lives brotherhood.<\/p>\n

What are vows?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

At the end of the Novitiate, the one who asks for it makes profession; he makes a commitment following Christ, in the Congregation, by pronouncing the three vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. He wants by this way, to follow an evangelical lifestyle, that of Jesus. It is a renunciation of marriage and certain forms of power and possessions, but he experiences that it is a choice that frees to love by giving everything.<\/p>\n

What do you do daily?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

There is what appears outwardly to the life of the Brothers, their work as teachers or educators in schools or their activities. There is also what is seen less! Every morning and every evening, Brothers meet together to pray in their oratory. They also participate in the Eucharist, often in their parish. They meet together to share meals and moments of leisure and of meetings.<\/p>\n

\u00cates-vous tous enseignants ?<\/h4>\n

Aujourd\u2019hui beaucoup de Fr\u00e8res sont ou ont \u00e9t\u00e9 enseignants, mais certains sont aussi engag\u00e9s dans d\u2019autres activit\u00e9s pour l\u2019\u00e9ducation et l\u2019\u00e9vang\u00e9lisation. Nous sommes convaincus de l\u2019importance primordiale de l\u2019\u00e9ducation et de l\u2019annonce de J\u00e9sus-Christ aux enfants et aux jeunes. C\u2019est pour cela que nos fondateurs avaient cr\u00e9\u00e9 une multitude de petites \u00e9coles et une congr\u00e9gation de Fr\u00e8res \u00e9ducateurs.<\/p>\n

Pouvez-vous \u00eatre envoy\u00e9 en mission n\u2019importe o\u00f9 ?<\/h4>\n

Dans le pass\u00e9 et aujourd\u2019hui encore, beaucoup de fr\u00e8res ont quitt\u00e9 leur pays pour partir l\u00e0 o\u00f9 on les envoyait pour instruire, \u00e9duquer et \u00e9vang\u00e9liser les enfants et les jeunes. Aujourd\u2019hui, nous sommes pr\u00e9sents dans plus de 25 pays. D\u00e8s le moment de la formation la plupart des Fr\u00e8res ont l\u2019occasion de vivre des exp\u00e9riences internationales dans d\u2019autres pays. Par la suite, on peut leur demander de partir ailleurs comme les Fr\u00e8res d\u2019Ouganda qui viennent d\u2019\u00eatre envoy\u00e9s au Soudan du Sud\u2026<\/p>\n

Est-on Fr\u00e8re pour toute la vie ?<\/h4>\n

Oui, apr\u00e8s l\u2019engagement d\u00e9finitif par lequel on accepte librement cette vie pour toujours. Auparavant, le Fr\u00e8re vit une p\u00e9riode de v\u0153ux temporaires qui dure plusieurs ann\u00e9es et lui permet de faire l\u2019exp\u00e9rience concr\u00e8te de la vie de Fr\u00e8re et d\u2019approfondir son choix. Par la suite, la vie du Fr\u00e8re continue \u00e0 \u00eatre un chemin avec des d\u00e9couvertes et parfois des obstacles. Le \u00ab oui \u00bb de la profession perp\u00e9tuelle doit \u00eatre redit et v\u00e9cu chaque jour.<\/p>\n

La Famille mennaisienne, qu\u2019est-ce que c\u2019est ?<\/h4>\n

Jean-Marie de la Mennais et Gabriel Deshayes ont fond\u00e9 une congr\u00e9gation de Fr\u00e8res pour l\u2019instruction, l\u2019\u00e9ducation et l\u2019\u00e9vang\u00e9lisation des enfants et des jeunes. Depuis d\u2019autres chr\u00e9tiens, des baptis\u00e9s la\u00efcs, hommes et femmes, les ont rejoints. Avec les Fr\u00e8res ils partagent la mission dans les \u00e9coles et les centres \u00e9ducatifs. Ils sont marqu\u00e9s par les id\u00e9es \u00e9ducatives et la spiritualit\u00e9 de Jean-Marie de la Mennais. Des liens fraternels se sont tiss\u00e9s entre eux et ils forment ensemble la Famille mennaisienne. La\u00efcs et Fr\u00e8res y ont leur place dans le respect de la vocation de chacun.<\/p>\n
