A day full of history, June 23rd<\/sup> 2021. After 149 years of presence in Vannes and 52 years at 4 rue d’Argouges, the Brothers left the Episcopal City to join the Mother House of Plo\u00ebrmel. Since 1995, this house was the seat of the Brother Superior Major of St John the Baptist Province – France, England. A celebration brought together Brothers and Families, thanksgiving for what had been lived. This move was the result of a decision by the 2019 Chapter Meeting to respond to a call.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIn leaving this house, we enter into the orientations of the Chapter Assembly of February 2019, to do the will of God, in the Mennaisian Family, and not the Brothers among themselves, alone, Bro Yannick Houssay, Provincial, explained during the time of the celebration.<\/p>\n

We obeyed the Spirit. This path invited us to thanksgiving. We believed that it was the Spirit who guided us through this decision. We did not leave Vannes because we could no longer stay there, but to answer a call.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Obeying and dying to oneself are two requirements for being a disciple of Christ. This was the conviction of the Evangelist Luke when he said: \u201cWhoever wants to follow me, let him renounce himself, take up his cross every day and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it (Lk 9:23-24)’.<\/em><\/p>\n

To leave this house in Vannes, where so much was lived, where so many decisions and orientations concerning the Brothers, the Tutelle, the Mennaisian Family, the animation at the service of the young were taken, is to make an act of simplicity.<\/p>\n

We are only humble servants of the Lord. He is the Master. It is His work and not ours.<\/p>\n

We left here rooms that saw a Missionary life woven. But what counts is to follow Christ, on a daily basis. It is not stone houses that matter, but the work of God in the heart of the World and in the heart of each one.<\/p>\n

We sing that we want to continue, with our Brothers, with the Mennaisian Family, to be these servants, in the image of Mary.<\/p>\n

To leave this house is also to abandon oneself. The Lord invites us to give Him this house. If we say yes to Him, He will make us bear fruits. We believe Him.<\/p>\n

Doesn\u2019t He know better than what we need. If we want to carry His Word; if we want to be called disciples; we agree to take the step He asks us to take. We leave what we hold dear to Him. We put our trust in Him. We know that His Providence accompanies us.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the celebration and the meal that followed<\/strong> Bros Michel Bouvais, Michel Vall\u00e9e, Gabriel Rivi\u00e8re, Jean-Paul Peuz\u00e9, Louis S\u00e9it\u00e9, R\u00e9my Harel, Alain Dubois, Paul Arbert, Yannick Houssay, Gabriel Douaud, Philippe Lecointre, P\u00e8re Francis Loisel, Mme Monique Le Garrec were present. Several Brothers were absent due to the remoteness or their health.<\/p>\n

History of the Brothers in Vannes
\nEspecially the Provincial House
\n4, rue Fran\u00e7ois d’Argouges<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Brothers joined Vannes for the first time in 1872 to teach at the Ecclesiastical College until 1881, then from 1881 to 1909. They then founded the School of Hydrography in 1899, which they held until 1907, when it closed.<\/p>\n

After the secularization, the Inspection of the Brothers was located Rue Richemont in Vannes<\/strong>, then rue de La Tour d’Auvergne,<\/strong> later at 18, rue Jeanne d’Arc <\/strong>from 1926 to 1946 where the Brothers Rapha\u00ebl-Marie Potier, Blaise Le Botmel, L\u00e9ophane Cadoret succeeded each other (during World War II).<\/p>\n

The Brothers settled 1 rue Vincent Rouill\u00e9<\/strong> in 1946, with as Visitors of the District Ste Anne: the Brothers L\u00e9ophane Cadoret, Pierre (Gu\u00e9rin) Le Cheviller, Pierre (Clarence) Le Foulgoc, Am\u00e9d\u00e9e Le Pennuen and Fran\u00e7ois Mainguet.<\/p>\n

It was in 1965 that the decision was made to leave this house, too cramped, difficult to develop and located at the corner of 2 streets too noisy. Brother Le Pennuen set his sights on this bare ground located Rue Fran\u00e7ois d’Argouges near the train station and the buses, large enough and quiet despite its proximity to the main roads. He himself designed the plans of the future House. The land of 2391 m was bought 280,000 F. Brother Le Pennuen would no longer be a Visitor of the District when the work was completed\u2026 named in the South where he designed the construction of new buildings in Bethany. In 1969 the Community composed of Brother Fran\u00e7ois Mainguet, Visitor, Pierre Lamand\u00e9, Assistant Visitor, Joachim Le Marec and Eug\u00e8ne Huchon, (Vocation Ministry) settled at 4, rue Fran\u00e7ois d’Argouges.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf, as the saying goes, three moves are worth a fire,\u201d I leave it to you to conclude\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Maison Dubreuil, specialist in moving operations, took a day and a half to complete it. The work was well done, with minimal damage to the walls and stairs.\u201d<\/p>\n

On February 20th\u00a0 and 21st , 1969<\/strong>, the Gabriel Deshayes District Administration moved from Rue Vincent Rouill\u00e9 to 4 rue Fran\u00e7ois d’Argouges.<\/p>\n

It was the fifth move of this house in Vannes.<\/p>\n

The Brothers occupied the house for 52 years.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cThe Official blessing of the house took place on Friday, April 11th , 1969. The Presider was Abb\u00e9 Boulo, Chaplain of Juv\u00e9nat St Herv\u00e9\u2026 All the rooms received the blessing of the Church, a protection pledge of the Lord and abundant graces for the sedentary and for the \u201cnomads\u201d who would want to stop there.<\/p>\n

The Brothers of the surrounding Schools were always present. Philom\u00e8ne did things very well and generously accepted the extra fatigue that this meeting caused him. She was also admirably assisted by Brother Gabriel Olivier, who was detached from St Herv\u00e9: he was an experienced butler and very restful for the Director.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brother Fran\u00e7ois Mainguet<\/strong> would remain in this house, as Visitor until 1974 -he was already seriously ill with heart sickness, but\u00a0 would also take the charge of the College St Julien of Malestroit in 1975.<\/p>\n

Brother Pierre Lamand\u00e9<\/strong> succeeded him from 1974 to 1979 with Brothers Michel Guillaume, Assistant Visitor, DAV, Francis Launay, Bursar, Fran\u00e7ois Jaffr\u00e9, DAV.<\/p>\n

Brother Yves-Jean Labb\u00e9<\/strong>, from 1979 to 1985, with Bros Francis Launay, Emmanuel P\u00e9drono, Lucien Le Gal, Joseph P\u00e9dron, Gabriel Rivi\u00e8re, Joseph Le Port.<\/p>\n

Brother Albert Le Dorlot,<\/strong> from 1985 to 1991, Bros Bernard Le Men\u00e9, DAV, Cl\u00e9ment Blandin, Bursar<\/p>\n

Bro Michel Vall\u00e9e<\/strong>, 1991-1995. At the arrival of Brother Michel as Provincial, the Community was composed of 7 members: Michel Vall\u00e9e, Pierre Lamand\u00e9 (Diocesan Director) Emmanuel P\u00e9drono (teacher at Ste-Anne d’Auray) Francis Loisel, Dav and Head of the MEJ, Lucien Le Gal (reception), Joseph P\u00e9dron and Gabriel Rivi\u00e8re (FIC APLON).<\/p>\n

In 1992, the Community was visited by Bishop Fran\u00e7ois-Mathurin Gourv\u00e8s of Vannes.<\/p>\n

In 1995<\/strong>, the Community was composed of Bros Michel Vall\u00e9e, Henri Briel, Gabriel Rivi\u00e8re, Lucien Le Gal, Francis Loisel, Fran\u00e7ois Nogr\u00e9.<\/p>\n

It was the end of the Gabriel Deshayes District and the beginning of the new St John the Baptist Province.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Renovations were carried out to accommodate the future Provincial Team (Rooms, Offices, Archives, Elevator). During the work from mid-April to mid-July the Brothers would reside in a house that would be rented at 4 rue Kerquer in the district of M\u00e9nimur.<\/p>\n
