On Thursday, Dec. 22, the President of the Republic, Joseph Michel Martelly visited the city of Cap-Haitien (North) where he continues his extensive tour of solidarity on the occasion of the Christmas season and the end of the year.
After walking downtown for a few minutes, the President of the Republic was welcomed at St. Joseph School by Brother Charles COUTARD, one of his former teachers, as well as Brother Yves ALLAIN.
The program of free education was the focus of a successful interview. On the courtyard of the school, the Head of State distributed of gifts to hundreds of children.
A working session was held at the Roi Christophe Hotel with officials in the region, representatives of Associations, and religious leaders including Bishop Louis KEBREAU to whom the President of the Republic expressed his gratitude for his dedication and his sense of leadership.
He took the opportunity to evaluate the progress of the works to extend the runway at the international airport of Cap-Haitien. This work will be completed in 2013.
The President also went to St. Louis de Gonzague (Delmas), run by the Brothers of Christian Instruction, for the Christmas Eve Mass on the 24th December.
