IN CONGO-ZAIRE
On August 30, 1969: arrival of 4 Canadian brothers in Congo-Zaire.

1969: DUNGU. The brothers put time and effort into a secondary college, Wando Institute, another secondary college staffed by priests, and into the co-ordination of diocesan schools. In 1975, they found a juniorate which benefits from classes given at Wando Institute.

1972: BANGADI. The brothers work part-time at Bafuka Institute, a secondary school, and also at the catechism formation center.

1977: POKO. Next to Bakangaie Institute, a secondary school, the brothers manage a woodwork training center.

1985: BUNIA. A community is opened at Bunia, to ensusre the theological formation of young brothers (scholastics).

1994: KINSHASA. In 1994, the theological college is transferred to Kinshasa. Due to consecutive troubles since Mobutu’s fall, the young brothers continue , after the noviciate, their formation at the CELAF (Centre Lassalien Francophone) in Abidjan, with brothers from Western Africa.

Mobutu’s fall in 1997 causes trouble and looting throughout the country. The communities are affected. The Canadian brothers are repatriated, the young Zairean brothers taking care of the residence. A relative calm allows later on the progressive return of the Canadian brothers, but only the institutes at Bangadi and Dungu are taken up again by about ten brothers including 5 Congolese.
